Due to popular demand, we've decided to put a lag compensation mod on the server. More info and hopefully clarifying some (from what I believe) widely spread misconceptions:

  • The new mod is not 'NewNet'. NewNet comes with a lot of additional features and modifications which actually alter the gameplay and are not part of the enhanced netcode [click]. We do not want to use them on the server but preserve the gameplay and feeling as we are used to it.
  • Instead, we have decided to give a lightweight mod a try, which focuses on lag compensation called LCWeapons. I've ported our ComboGib mod to it.
  • LCWeapons is a lightweight and versatile lag compensator for hitscan weapons in Unreal Tournament.

    It can also improve gameplay with other weapons that don't have any kind of lag compensation by displaying elements such as projectiles and enemies in a 'predicted' position.
  • I believe you can describe this as an enhanced version of ZeroPing. So this new mod should really improve the experience for players with higher pings.
  • Lag compensation is active by default for each player. In case you want to modify your settings, I've added a GUI:

  • You can directly bring up the panel by saying !lc

Hop in the server and try it out. I'm curious on what you think.

Regarding the bots, probably be best to disable kills/special event while bots are present in the game from registering in the logs, would guess modifying the UTStats mutator to not log anything if a bot is in at the time.

Yeah I've also noticed that. However, simply stripping the events from the log wont do, as your gametime is still being counted (giving you a disadvantage). I guess the easiest would be to simply ignore the match as soon as a bot was present...

Edit: Matches are ignored by UTStats if bots were present and interfered in the match (=one of them killed/got killed atleast 10 times). The current stats have been fixed accordingly. Thanks for the feedback, Sniper.

LC does feel pretty good, there are times where I feel i'm shooting straight through a player but it doesn't happen enough for it to be that much of a problem. Only suggestion I would make is change the combo owner to the one that shot the shock ball, or make it kill the owners self if it is close to them.

Newnet is pretty buggy with the shock ball explosions, one can be combo'd multiple times for example, and is really only suitable for ~ 10 players max. I also found a pretty funny bug years ago where if you set your ping high enough you can hit a player more than once getting the first kill like normal, and if the player spawns fast enough you get another kill from the second hit.

With ZP you have constant no reg hits if a shock ball goes across your shot, a player dodges across your shot, shots not registering if a player is partially hidden behind something, crouch hit boxes not being changed from the standing one, and finally the huge hits boxes that make hitting people way to easy.

Latest Updates:

  • Added additional announcer messages ("You have the Flag!", "Play!", "You are on the X Team.")
  • Fixed the announcer messages to use your UT's sound settings (like for the default announcer sounds)
  • Added client config option to disable the CTF announcer
  • Added client config option to disable the name HUD of team members
  • Added HitSounds and client config option to enable them
  • Updated the TeamSpeakConnector plugin to display the current TS clients on your HUD. By default, the HUD is enabled if you are connected to the TS server and the channel (with your TS name matching your UT name). You can change this to 'Always off' or 'Always on' in the TS tab (!ts)

Update on 4th December:

  • Added "Denied" reward for flag carrier kills right before a capture (viewable for all players)
  • Added "ComboWhore" reward for killing 30 players with combos during the game (viewable for all players)
  • Added "Holy Shit!" reward for killing a player with an insane combo (=high movements between ball start and combo and high velocity during combo; viewable only for self)
  • Added "Combo King!" reward for hitting 10 insane combo kills during the game (viewable for self)
  • Combo kill amount and Insane Combo kill amount displayed on SmartCTF Scoreboard
  • Denied, Combo kills and Insane Combo kills are now recorded by the UTStats

Nice to see an admin putting in effort to make a server unique, instead of the copy paste servers with fake players listed.

Yeah I noticed it too. UTPure fixed it but we had to drop it in favor of LCWeapons. That's like the only thing left I need to adress, but that one is the most trickiest I fear.

Edit: Well, maybe XC_Spec is worth a try.

Alright, it looks like that is fixed now.

I've updated the server once again:

  • Adjusted Insane Combo triggering so that it happens a bit more often now
  • Combo King! is now played for having 50 combo kills (also announced to all others)
  • Hitting multiple of 5 insane combos triggers Wicked Sick! reward (only for self)
  • Christmas season has arrived!
